Summary

Disney’s live-action Snow White ditches the classic love story we all know and love in favor of a modern “woman warrior” narrative. But does it work—or is it just another Hollywood blunder? Joining me is Jonathan Pageau, a master icon carver, public speaker, and fairy tale expert who’s crafted his own stunning retelling of Snow White. We dive deep into the power of fairy tales, how they shape culture, prepare us for life’s battles, and why modern rewrites keep missing the mark. Can these timeless stories be saved? Let’s find out.

Hey, everybody, welcome back to The Lila Rose Show. Snow White is in theaters right now, and it's not doing so well compared to a lot of other live action Disney remakes of the classic cartoons that they made in the last century, in the 20th century. A lot of people are saying that Disney's live action Snow White remake actually got a lot of the beautiful classic elements of the fairy tale wrong. It tried to

0:23.9

basically make it more modernized. Instead of Snow White finding the prints, it was about Snow White

0:29.6

finding independence or finding herself as a leader. We're going to discuss all of this with

0:35.1

Jonathan Pajot, who is actually the author of his own

0:38.2

rendition of Snow White.

0:39.7

And I love this conversation with Jonathan because we're discussing some of the archetypes

0:43.9

and the themes that you can find in classic fairy tales.

0:47.2

He also discusses why fairy tales are important, why those original beautiful classic movies

0:53.2

from Disney resonated so powerfully with many people

0:57.8

and why perhaps people are upset about the current live action remake of Snow White.

1:04.4

I hope you enjoy this conversation.

1:06.5

Jonathan Pajot is joining me now.

1:08.1

He's an artist, a stone carver, an author, and really an amazing

1:11.1

host telling the stories of archetypes through artistic expression. And there's no better person

1:17.2

to talk about fairy tales and archetypes because he is actually the author, as well as working

1:22.9

with illustrators, of some really beautiful works reimagining. He might actually take issue with the word reimagining because it's not changing the

1:31.7

original core of the fairy tale, but ultimately a retelling of Grimm's fairy tales.

1:36.1

So thank you so much, Jonathan, for joining the podcast.

1:39.1

That was great to be here.

1:40.7

It's good.

1:41.5

I admire your work.

1:42.8

I see it, you know, I've been seeing it from a distance. So really
