We're talking today with Juliet Alprin.

She is National Affairs correspondent for the Washington Post,

where she covers the transformation of federal environmental policy, and it is transforming or being transformed in many ways.

Okay, let's start with Rod Schoonover, who worked in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research Office of the Geographer and Global Issues.

He spoke before the House Intelligence Committee on June 5th about the security risks that the United

States faces because of climate change.

And now something's happened that's caused him, apparently, to resign.

Tell us what it is.

Well, what happened is that when he, as you mentioned, he was

testifying before the House Intelligence Committee in a public briefing. And because it was a

public briefing, his agency's testimony on climate change, what's driving it and what are the

risks associated with it,

had to be cleared by the White House.

And the White House first tried to alter the testimony and specifically eliminate, essentially,
