It used to be a guy in New York who was who we called the Please Man.

This was about 1970 or so and he would come to you on a street corner just suddenly appear

and he would do just the word, that was his entire libretto.

He would do it with extended vowels and with a doubling over of the body and a torquing

and twisting in all kinds of horror boys. So you'd be walking along with your shopping bag

or something. And the man would dart out and go,

And so I gave him money and then he came round again.
