Police in Oklahoma have identified Lyme lady, a female Jane Doe whose body was discovered

in 1980 as 21-year-old Tamara Lee Tagard, who lived in Las Vegas.

On Thursday morning, the sheriff of Oklahoma County held a news conference to announce

the identification.

Tagard's body was discovered on the shore of the North Canadian River on April 18, 1980,

which would have been her 21st birthday.

Her body had been covered with lime, likely with the intention of destroying evidence,

but the presence of moisture from the river made the lime preserve the body instead.

Tagard was believed to have been deceased for 10 days before she was found, but a heart-tept

too was still visible on her chest and her face was well preserved.
