Summary

In this Q+R episode, we dive into some real-life questions about family patterns, parenting decisions, and initiating difficult conversations.

First, we talk about the fear of repeating unhealthy family patterns. How can we learn from our past while creating a different path for our own kids? And what do we do when we notice ourselves falling into the same habits? We share how naming those fears — sometimes even out loud to our kids — can strip them of their power. Recognizing patterns is half the battle, and when we fail, honesty and apology go a long way.

From there, we explore the hard but necessary work of saying no to even good things in order to live more Spirit-filled lives. Whether it’s homeschooling or another pursuit, it’s not always a black-and-white issue — it’s about prayerfully discerning our true capacity. God often uses our kids to bring hidden struggles to the surface, and part of leading them well is letting them see us wrestle with weakness and lean on Jesus.

Finally, we answer a question about starting conversations with parents who don’t understand or accept the idea of breaking generational patterns. We talk about starting with curiosity — inquiring about their story — and then sharing honestly about what we’re noticing in ourselves and what we don’t want to pass on to our kids. We talk about the difference between being peacekeepers, who avoid conflict, and peacemakers, who bring truth with gentleness. Honoring our parents doesn’t mean we can’t have these conversations; it means we approach them prayerfully, carefully, and with grace.

Throughout these responses, we explore how honesty, grace, and intentional choices can help us break old patterns, lead our kids well, and walk more faithfully in the freedom God offers.

Today we're going to respond to your questions. Thank you for sending them in. And reminder to everybody, we're doing this new thing, which many have done, but I just think it's a fun way to interact. So many of you sending questions in written form, and that's great. But we are also wanting to say we're opening the world to voice memos. So here's what you do. You simply just take your phone, record a one- minute voice memo with your name, where you're from. Those two things are important. And then a one minute because longer than that's hard to listen to or hard to, you know, helps us all be concise. A one minute voice memo of your question. It can be shorter, obviously, but try to make it a minute. But we'd love to interact with you in this way. And what's fun is we've gotten some questions recently in that format. And so here's what

1:47.4

you're going to hear. In a couple minutes, we're going to respond to some questions, but you're going to hear the question come on live. And then we're going to respond to it in real time. And it's kind of like you're even here in the room, which is exciting. Elizabeth. Can I ask a question?

1:58.4

I raise my hand.

1:59.3

Yeah, you just raised your hand.

2:00.2

I was like, you're an adult.

2:01.3

What if somebody wants to send in a voice memo question, but they don't want to say their name or where they live? Some people want to keep their questions a little more anonymous because other people might listen. Can they do that? Oh, sure. Can they still send a voice memo if they don't want to save their name and location. I mean, if it's a sensitive topic, sure. Yeah. I think use discernment. There's no rules around this. All right. Good point. I'm just thinking that will deter some people. You're like rules are so important. You're like, okay, we have to these categories. That's okay. I would just say, if you'd like to send a voice

memo in, go ahead. And if you would like to write one, that's fine too. But this is a fun way to interact. So I want to say that. Thank you to everyone who is taking a minute to rate and subscribe the podcast. Spotify is booming. Our Spotify growth has been insane. And a lot of people have been listening to Spotify and then also Apple Podcasts.
