This episode in the series of messages, fear deceives, grace sets us free.

You find Jacob 500 miles journey walking on the edge of the desert.

This is probably his second night.

So I really walked two days.

And this is about his second night on his way to his uncle's Laban's house in the land of Haram. And he comes in that town of Bethel. And that's why I'm

guessing it's two days, because that's about the length of time if you walk.

That town used to be called Luz before Abraham, the grandfather of Jacob, had gone in there and built an altar to the Lord, and he called and changed the name of the area from Luz to Bethel.

Bethel, the house of God.

And so there, Jacob had a dream and a vision.

Let me testify to the Lord, not to me, but to the Lord, that even in our darkest nights,

God can give you a dream. Amen? Even in our deepest despair, God can open heaven's door.

Even in our most lonely wilderness experience, God can lift you up to the very portals of heaven.

Even in our most bleak situations, God can give you hope. Now, beloved, watch and see how God deals with

his broken children. Our God did not appear to Jacob at that time in the wilderness when he's

all alone, utter confusion, loneliness and worry and concern, where he has a rock for a pillar and the stars for a

blanket all alone.

And God said to him, you miserable sinner, you did not trust in my ability to fulfill the

promise I gave your mother.

You schemed and conspired and you deceived

your father. You have blown it. You are on your own, buddy. Don't come running to me now.

That's not our God. Remember, thank God for His overruling grace.

Let's see if we can remember it.
