FBI employees have sued acting Attorney General James McHenry over a survey allegedly designed to purge bureau personnel

who were involved in investigations related to President Donald Trump

and the January 6th U.S. Capitol attack.

The lawsuit was brought by several anonymous FBI employees as a

class action complaint and accuses the Justice Department of violating the Constitution and

privacy laws. Three sources say FBI officials complied today with a demand to provide a list of

thousands of employees who worked on the January 6 investigations to top DOJ officials who've

indicated those people may be fired. Former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe told CNN today

that he doesn't think most Americans understand what's at stake here. The agents who are left

are confronting a situation that FBI agents haven't even imagined since in the post-Huver era.

And that is, what do I do when I'm asked to do something unlawful or unethical,

but then am I putting myself in a position where I might be fired for angering the wrong politically connected person? That is not a calculation that's ever gone on in the FBI,

and it will have been introduced by the fear

of having watched the termination of their innocent colleagues.
