0:55.7	have come out at a better time. And I'm wondering how it came about. Well, in terms of timing,
1:02.9	my friends tell me to stop writing books because my first one came out the day before 9-11.
1:08.2	Oh, my gosh. I had one in the Great Recession. And then they said, you know, please give me
1:13.2	two years warning before you write another once I can get out. But I was speaking at a major
1:20.8	leadership conference. And at the end of it, senior executives from, let's just say some Fortune 10, Fortune 20 companies went to the lounge
1:31.4	and started talking about what was happening to their careers now that they had hit their 50s.
1:36.5	And they felt like they were being pushed aside.
1:39.4	Some were expected to quickly be pushed out.
1:41.7	One was forced to retire early.
1:44.0	And I thought, wow, that's just like what my
1:47.3	friends are telling me and my neighbors are telling me. So I thought, this is great. I'm going to do
1:52.1	a book on age discrimination because this is terrible. These are amazing people who I respect.
1:57.7	How could this happen? And being a journalist like you, I decided I was going
2:03.1	to dig deep with it. And I started interviewing CEOs, senior executives, consultants on the workplace,
2:10.7	academics, and tons and tons of professionals. I did about 300 interviews to find out what it was that would
2:19.3	sustain a career from beginning to end. So the title of the book and the subhead make it sound like
2:24.0	it's only if you're unemployed, but really a huge part of the book is how to keep your
