Luke chapter 15, verse 20.

But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion and ran and embraced him and kissed him.

Oh, this may be one of the most beautiful verses in all the Bible.

It's in the middle of this parable, this story of the prodigal son,

this son who left his father's home and went after all that this world had to offer him.

And the father loved him and missed him and longed for him to be home and was waiting day

after day after day for his son to come home. And once his son did, verse 20 starts by saying the son

arose and came to his father. But then it says, well, he was still a long way off. And the son is

wondering, what's this going to be like? Is my father even going to take me back? And the father

comes running after him. and i remember telling this story

in a home and the middle east with Muslims all around me and telling this story from jesus and immediately

when i get to this part of this story one of the men in the house, actually the owner of the house, said, no way.

A father would not do that. Not after his son has shamed him. A father would not get up and run

after his son. And I said, well, that's the way the story goes. And this is a picture.
