We are standing outside the Downing Centre District Court in Sydney.

It's Valentine's Day and Hamish McLaren has disappointed people who once loved him one more time.

This was supposed to be a day of celebration for his victims.

In September last year, McLaren put his hands up and admitted he was guilty of stealing more than $7 million from 15 victims.

He's in jail and today was supposed to be the day his victims found out how much longer he'd be there.

But with Hamish, there's always a twist.

At another hearing on Monday, McLaren's defence team was granted an adjournment.

They've claimed McLaren has autism and have asked for more time to repair a psychiatric report before a judge decides his sentence.

This diagnosis was met with suspicion from those who know him well.

One of his victims emailed me after Monday's hearing.

He's not autistic, he's just a first-class arsehole, which I don't believe is a medical condition.

And so Tracy Hall will have to wait a few more weeks to find out how many years the man who deceived and betrayed her will spend behind bars.

The core of the case against Hamish is laid out in a 31-page document called a statement of agreed facts.

It's more than a smoking gun, it's a sign confession.

This document methodically chronicles the wreckage Hamish left in his wake.

This is a con man's bottom line.

Tracy Hall lost not only Max, she was fleeced of $317,000 in super-insavings.
