Hello and welcome to this special edition of The Trawl for which we've scrolled not just through

the social media, but also through the history books. I'm Marina Perkis.

And I'm Gemma Forte and before we start, Marina and I want to dedicate this episode of The Trawl

to every comic, every singer, every influencer and every public figure who has ever

risked their career or gone out of their way to lambast, roast or laugh at a fascist.

Now, look, that does mean that there's a very long list of people who probably should get a

mention in this episode, but we're only going to be able to scratch

the surface in this pod when it comes to paying tribute to heroes who don't wear capes, but

probably have microphones. So to give you some context of how this little trawl special came about,

do you remember back in September, and in fact, Marina and I did chat about this in the

trawl at the time. Jimmy Kimmel, the TV host over in the States, he was suspended from his show,

right? And the reason was because he'd made comments, jokes, however you want to see it,

about conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who of course was murdered. So his show was pulled

off air for six nights, but it was pulled off the air because ABC and Disney had had a lot of

pressure from the Trump administration. So quite interesting. And I got to having a chat with

my dad actually about this. And I remember

him saying at the time, and the thing is, these comics, they're very important, they're very

important in terms of fighting fascists. And I thought, yes. And my gut was that he was absolutely

right. And I said to Marina, is there something there? Should we do a show about this? And she

was like, well, yeah, but you can't just have a feeling about it.

We probably need to know why.
