Summary

New Discourses Bullets, Ep. 153 Fascism is generally regarded as a reactionary and right-wing ideology (though that latter characterization is strongly contested for good reasons). The truth is, it is a progressive ideology, though. It would be most appropriate to say that Fascism is progressive by reactionary means, in fact. In this episode of New Discourses Bullets, host James Lindsay makes the case that we should see Fascism as an ultra-progressive ideology that seeks to unify people in order to advance humanity to some idealistic higher potential. Hey everybody. It is James Lindsay. You are listening to New Discourse's Bullets, where I give a short

0:15.8

bullet point like summary of a single topic relevant to woke that we all need to understand

0:19.9

so that we can defeat it.

0:25.5

And as you know, if you are a regular follower of the podcast, I've been talking a bit about fascism and we'll continue to talk about fascism in some future episodes.

0:31.1

I want to kind of start breaking down some of the elements of fascism, not just communism.

0:35.3

And this is probably going to be a pretty short episode.

0:38.2

There's not a whole lot to say about this unless I were to dive into literature.

0:41.9

But in short, I just want to give you the idea.

0:45.7

A lot of people think that fascism is a reactionary program, a right-wing program, a backwards-looking program. You hear them push ideas like return. We're

0:58.5

going to return to the golden age and re-establish it. You see people argue that we need to go back to

1:03.8

1650, for example, to get back to where we need to be. But this is a misunderstanding of fascism.

1:12.2

Fascism, as I've said in other episodes and in writing and other places before,

1:16.2

is progressive, not regressive. It is, to be more precise, progressive by regressive means.

1:25.4

Okay, now that's a very weird thing, but if you've heard my discussions on

1:29.1

communism, it's the opposite of that. Communism is regressive by progressive means. It's the

1:36.3

opposite. Communism wants to take people back to their original state, their pre-lapsarian state,

1:43.6

the unfallen state of being socialists, or in

1:48.1

queer theory, queer, or whatever else, or anti-racist. They want to take them back in time to

1:53.2

who they were in their original state, which is to say that we were communal. We lived in

1:58.5

tribes that shared everything. There was no sense of private

2:01.3

property. And so they actually want to go back, but they want to do so by pushing forward and

2:08.8

going through. We're not going to erase the progress of history. We're not going to erase the
