I'm Ed Vasey and we're going to be unpacking the politics of the day from reforms plan to be the toughest party on crime ever to why people prefer having female plumbers, plasters and electricians.

Joining me are two people I wouldn't trust to fix anything around my house.

Anyway, Sunday Times columnist and restaurant critic Charlotte Ivers and Patrick Kidd, who writes the sketches of London

series for The Times, among many other things. As we came on air, Nigel Farage was starting

his press conference, promising that Reform UK will be the toughest party on crime ever.

He wants to build temporary so-called Nightingale Prisons if Reform wins the next election.

He wants to send the most dangerous prisoners we have in this country to El Salvador.

Charlotte Ivers, this sounds like a carefully thought through rational approach

to tackling crime in this country.

Yes, I mean, look, we all know there's an overcrowding crisis in the prisons.

That is certainly true.

I think probably the problem comes one step before that.

You know, it'd be all very well and good having these Nightingale prisons.

But everybody I speak to who works in the law courts from magistrates to barristers

and will just say we cannot get people through the courts. Everything is so horrendously
