Some people spend their whole lives wondering whether the paranormal is real.

They tell themselves the shadows they see are tricks of the

light, that the sounds they hear are houses settling, pipes cooling, imagination, running wild.

But some people don't get the luxury of doubt. Some people learn early, far too early,

that something else is out there. And it has been paying attention to them for a very long time.

And for her, it didn't start with a haunting in adulthood.

It started before she could walk, before she could talk, before she even existed outside the womb.

And looking back now, she realizes her life has never truly been separate from whatever follows her.

Long before she was born, her parents lived in a quiet top-floor apartment, a place without

attics or upper neighbors, a place where nothing strange had ever happened, until the night her

mother went into labor.

That night the ceiling above them erupted with the sound of something heavy, like a bowling ball, rolling back and forth, back and forth for hours. There was no attic, no upstairs tenants, no explanation. Just that rhythmic, deliberate weight scraping across the roof as if something was pacing above them, waiting. After she was born, the activity didn't stop.

It escalated. Books disappeared and cabinets kicked inward and footsteps marched through empty

rooms. Objects moved without hands ever touching them. One night her mother heard a musical

hairbrush begin to play, a delicate little tune, soft and sweet. She walked toward

the sound, expecting to see it vibrating across the floor, but it wasn't moving. It was standing

upright, perfectly still, yet the chime kept playing as if someone were shaking it. Unseen.

When her father tried to replicate the sound later, he had to shake the brush violently to get

the same clarity.
