Summary

There are some cases that captivate the attention of the entire world – Elizabeth Smart and Gabby Petito are names that we would all recognize.

I am sure that most of us also know the name Sherri Papini. Sherri’s case got worldwide attention back in 2016 when she was abducted. Her husband Keith raised the alarm when Sherri was not home when he finished work for the day. She had also failed to pick up her two children from daycare.

The search for Sherri cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and went on for weeks. On November 24, 2016, 22 days after she was reported missing, Sherri was found alive on the side of a road in Yolo County, California. She was battered, branded and bruised but otherwise okay.

We all breathed a collective sigh of relief – thank goodness for a happy ending!

Until more details emerged. Allegations of Sherri’s racist background and details that did not add up made some of us wonder about the validity of her story. As the years went on, I think many people assumed that Sherri had not told the truth about her experience, but that nothing would ever come of it.

In March 2022, Sherri Papini was charged with making false statements to a federal law enforcement officer and mail fraud. Her whole abduction was a lie and she schemed a plan at the time to run off to be with an ex boyfriend, leaving her husband and young children to worry for weeks.

In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the ‘abductions’ of Sherri Papini and Madison Bell.

Madison vanished in 2020 after she told her mother that she was ‘going tanning’. Her car was found abandoned and the FBI got involved. It turns out that Madison fled to be with a man that she had been speaking with online.

Day after my birthday like I said, it was it was a great one. Thank you. I'm officially 31.

Very old. Hit boss asked me if I was 22 today. I don't know if he was just trying to be funny or what.

0:46.0

I was like, no, 31. But yeah, had a great time. Thank you for the birthday wishes, the people who

0:51.1

wish me a happy birthday. Like I said, just a second ago our episode on Oran and Orson West came out

0:57.6

today and that we have not an update but just like a little side note on it. Yeah. So when I was

1:05.8

adding the episode, I was watching some clips. I found one newer clip and this isn't something that

1:10.9

we've seen mentioned very often. I know you filed this case kind of closer than I did since the

1:15.6

beginning. You even said like you've never heard of it. So remember it was like a big thing that

1:19.8

Oran and Orson they were out on the patio playing with chalk allegedly and even some people in

1:24.8

journalists were like, well, there was no chalk drawings at the patio and we're like, well, what a

1:28.8

rookie mistake. Hello. So allegedly they have a dog named chalk. But a lot of people I feel like

1:36.4

this could be a lie. But apparently according to Trezel, the kids were outside playing with their

1:43.6

dog chalk. Feel like it's strange. I don't know. I don't know if it's true. It could be true I guess.

1:50.0

But I feel like to me, it sounds maybe like this is a bit of a cover-up story when he realized that

1:56.0

there was actually no chalk drawings. He's like, oh, but actually our dog is called chalk.

1:59.6

You think otherwise he would have just said playing outside with the dog like that would be exactly

2:03.2

that's what I was going to say. Like he never in the interviews, he'd never prefaced it. Like I

2:08.4

wouldn't just be like, oh, you know, I was just hanging out with Peep. I'd be like, oh, you know,
