If you got a copy of your scriptures, we're in the book of James and we're going to do something today.

We're going to read a bit of James and we're going to read a bit of Romans too.

So if you want to open James, that'll help you, James James chapter 2 but I'm going to read a bit of James, a bit of Romans. I'm going to warn you today folks. Today's going to be a little different. It might feel a little bit like a lecture class, so put your thinking caps on, okay?

But let me tell you why I'm excited about that because I feel like today has the opportunity

to put some steel into the foundation of our faith.

And I think as a result of that, this would be a message you're going to refer to for some friends for years to come.

You're going to say, hey, go listen to this.

I think it might settle some unsettled parts of us.

When I talk to a lot of people, I feel that they're unsettled by a couple of different things.

Often people in their journey of faith say, man, I am unsettled by, can I I trust the Bible is it a reliable guidebook and

then how do I know I'm okay with God how do I know I've done enough how do I know he's

happy with me and these passages are going to touch down on two of those areas

that produce a lot of anxiety.

Can I trust this word and how do I know God and I are okay?

And before I read the passage, there's one last thing is this.

I always think it's important to honor your influences and for me as I've been teaching through

James I've mentioned Douglas Moose commentary enormously helpful today.

John Piper's thoughts on this text really help my own but even as I was going back

through old notes from when I taught this, I was struck
