Welcome to the podcast. My name is Douglas Wilson. This is episode 421, 421. So let's talk today about Israel, the birth of the nation of Israel in 1948. Back in the first part of the 20th century, Lord Balfour, B-A-L-F-O-U-R, who had grown up in an evangelical

home and was likely a dispensationalist, wrote to, in a private correspondence, he wrote to,

I think it was Lord Rothschild, that what has come to be known as the Balfour Declaration,

which was the statement that the British government supported the establishment of a homeland

for the Jews in Palestine.

That's the Balfour Declaration.

Now, what happened was this.

The Ottoman Empire was centered in Turkey,

and this Ottoman Empire had been there for centuries. So from the, from the, the Ottoman Empire,

extended into modern times, but began basically as a political entity in around the 1400s.

So the First World War was going on.

The Ottomans made a strategic error by, in a late breaking move, they sided with Germany. Okay? Then Germany lost. Now, what happened was

England and France, and then later the United States, were on the other side. And because the

Ottoman Empire, the Ottoman Empire had kind of the case of the

staggers.

It was, they were showing their age, but they sided with Germany who lost.

And that met when the, when the first World War ended, France and England were in a

position to simply walk into the Middle East and carve it up like a pie.

Because the Ottoman Empire was centered in modern-day Turkey, but they also controlled all of Palestine.

They controlled the Middle East.

That was part of the Ottoman Empire.

And when the war was over, France and England were in charge of the
