Summary

Faith is the evidence of things not seen. But getting our kids to understand trust in God is so difficult, especially when we as parents doubt His goodness.



This is an #adventfamilyexperience we used to help our kids understand trust and talk about faith in a tangible way they can "taste." Let's keep pressing into David's Psalm, that we might "taste and know that the Lord is good."

Have you ever done a trust fall? You know where someone you trust stands behind you and you simply fall backwards, trusting

that person is strong enough or even willing enough to catch you?

Like the trust fall, we wanted to teach our kids about trust, but in a more experiential way.

Yeah, so we got everything we needed and we wanted it to include the senses, but with one exception,

you can't see what's ahead.

You can touch and hear and smell and taste because God says to taste and know that the Lord

is good, but faith is the evidence of things not seen.

So while Josh was out of the house with the kids, I made a batch of their favorite chocolate chip cookies.

And later that evening, we took these little blindfolds and asked the kids, do you trust us?

And with childlike faith, they were all in.

So we let our kids on an adventure around the house.

They couldn't see anything.

We started by leading them to the sink and asked them to hold out their hands.

And as they did, we asked them if they still trusted us and we washed and dried their hands.

And after that, we led them to the living room and we picked up candles and held them up

to their nose and we asked them to describe what they smelled.

And then we led them into the kitchen and asked them if they still trusted us.

And then we had them open their mouths and they bit down on chocolate chip cookies. And they were so

pumped. It's a lesson really for all of us. So often because we can't see God or what he's up to

in our lives, we doubt him. We doubt his goodness.
