One of our family mottos is, "Do hard things first." Oftentimes though, we get so distracted as parents that we don't take the time to sit with our kids to help them learn to do hard things. So, what happens? We do it for them. We get more exhausted and they, in turn, become less resourceful. In this episode, we talk about how to help your kids accomplish something difficult for long term gains both with your kids and your sanity!

You know, this past week, we have really been pushing our kids in this area a lot. And I don't even know that it was

intentional. I think we just kind of, it's been one of those things. Our kids are truly wanting to

accomplish something. And when you see your child accomplish something that they didn't think

that they could do the emotion and the joy on their face, the bravery that you see come out of their lives is profound.

And so one of the big things that we learned, or that we did this week is Kennedy had her

training wheels on her bicycle and she doesn't ride as much as her brother so she just didn't

really want to learn how to do it too much.

And there was fear.

I mean, let's be honest, she was afraid.

And so one particular evening, I took her outside.

It was almost dark.

We have a street light out there, so it was kind of bright in where we live with the streetlight.

And I said, you know what?

I'm taking these training wheels off, and I'm never putting them back on again. And she kind of looked at me like, what, what do you mean, dad? And I said,

I'm just not going to put it back on again because you're, from now on, you're going to ride your bike

without them. And we rode around that night and she started picking it up really, really well. Literally the next night, I didn't even have to walk beside her.

She started on her own.

She was running, I mean, she's now going for bike rides with two wheels and the excitement.

I mean, I just stood on the sidewalk and I'm like cheering her on.

Like it was just so fun to be her dad and turning something over to her.
