My guest today is Mike Schreptfer or Schrepp, the chief technology officer at Facebook.

Schrepp is one of the world's most powerful and accomplished technologists.

He's built the infrastructure that powered Facebook's incredibly rapid expansion from a few million

users to a staggering 2.7 billion today.

He's also an evangelist for two technologies, the core of Facebook's long-term ambitions, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality.

Now I've been a bit of a skeptic about virtual reality, as readers of my newsletter will

know, but I have had a chance to play around with the

oculus quest too this is the new headset that Facebook has released and I'm

pretty impressed so we'll explore what role VR might play as a platform in

computing's future.

AI is of course a key technology of the exponential age and

Facebook has made some impressive contributions from their Facebook AI

research lab in areas like facial recognition and language

translation. Much of the AI work over the last few years has been focused heavily on the

thorny and constantly evolving challenge of content moderation and disinformation and Schreep himself has played a very
