I'm Margaret Brennan, and this is Face the nation. Eight months until the first votes are taken in the 2020 race and the 24 Democrats are off and running hard,

especially in the traditionally Democratic states

that went to President Trump in 2016.

I may be a Jersey boy, but my grandmother was born and raised in Des Moines.

And since it's Iowa, it's about trade.

And you ask any Iowa farmer if they're doing well and they'll say no?

We need a comprehensive strategy, not just a pattern of poking folks in the eye.

That's South Bend Mayor Pete Budajevich.

He's talking about the president's threat to put steep tariffs on Mexican imports if they didn't

agree to help with Central American migrants traveling through Mexico to

get to the US.

Look, millions of people are flowing through Mexico. That's unacceptable.

Mr. Trump's threat seemed to work.

Crisis averted at least for the moment.

We'll have a closer look at what was agreed to when we speak with a member of the Senate Republican

leadership, Missouri's Roy Blunt.

Then we'll hear from two 2020 candidates, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobishar, and Montana Governor Steve Bullock.
