There are a few people more intimately involved in the decision to launch an FBI investigation

into the Trump campaign's ties to Russia than Jim Baker, the former chief counsel of the

FBI.

Baker was there when the FBI in the summer of 2016 opened up the counterintelligence inquiry

codenamed Crossfire Hurricane, and he personally reviewed a secret court application to wiretapped

the phones of Carter Page, a Trump-Farn policy campaign adviser who had just left the campaign.

As Baker saw it then, these moves were absolutely necessary steps in light of the alarming

intelligence the Bureau had received about Russia's interference in the election and its

contacts with members of the Trump campaign.

But those in other moves by the FBI are now under intense scrutiny, with Attorney General

Bill Barr appointing a top federal prosecutor to investigate the origins of the Russia probe.

In other words, to investigate the actions of Baker and his colleagues at the FBI.

We'll talk to Baker about what he makes of that extraordinary move, and the other attacks
