In the early morning light, Lily Jack and their parents arrived in Chicago by train.

They traveled all night long from their hometown to visit the World's Columbian Exposition.

The year was 1893, and Chicago had been chosen as the site for the World's Fair, which had also been held in far off places like France, New York City, the UK, and Belgium.

They've been waiting all year to attend and it was hard to believe

the moment had finally arrived. Together they disembarked from the train with their

luggage in hand and walked a block to their hotel where they put their

things away before hurrying out into the street and boarding a trolley car.

The city was buzzing with people from all over the country and world who were visiting the fair.

The streets were crowded with horses, carriages, and people on foot, all moving towards the

fairgrounds.

In the distance, the only could see the towering buildings which seem to touch the clouds.

As they drew closer, her breath caught in wonder at the side of the colossal white buildings

decorated with dazzling lights and intricate designs.

The white city, Jack exclaimed, pointing towards the row of ivory-colored buildings that

shimmered in the sunlight.

We're finally here, Lily said, squeezing her younger brother's hand.

When the trolley car reached the fairgrounds, Lily and Jack followed their parents to the

ticket booth and then into the grounds. This was more than an ordinary fair. The entire grounds had been

built for the occasion. Architects and crews had been working on the site for more than a year.

Now there were gorgeous fountains, waterways, and new buildings

all to showcase the glory of Chicago, which had grown so dramatically in the last several years.

In the distance they saw the spinning Ferris wheel.
