Summary

Episode 288 features a discussion where an astrologer tries to explain what astrology is about to two people who are curious about the subject but somewhat skeptical. Last week Ian and Shaye from the comedy podcast Camp ReEducation reached out to me to see if I would be on their show, where they do interviews with people from different fields and try to familiarize themselves with new topics and reexamine their preconceptions. I agreed to do it as long as I could also release the recording as an episode of my podcast, and it ended up being a good discussion about trying to figure out how to explain astrology to a couple of non-astrologers who are skeptical about the subject but willing to listen and ask questions. Figuring out how to communicate what astrologers do to the general public has always been one of my interests, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to try doing that with them, and I think it ended up being a great discussion. 0:39.1	the genesis of this episode is that you guys have a podcast called Camp re-education, which is available at camp re-education.com, and you approached me about being a guest on your show because you do these episodes each month where you investigate
0:56.8	different sort of weird topics or weird categories and then you sometimes talk to people or interview people that have a background in that subject and we thought that it might be a good crossover episode that will appear on both of our podcast, but could you guys explain a little bit what your shows about?
1:14.3	Yeah, sure. So Ian and I, we do what we call camps. They're two-week immersions into various topics.
1:19.9	And we've done all kinds of different things. The idea primarily is to challenge our preconceptions and our biases.
1:27.0	You know, obviously we all go through life and we all collect these beliefs.
1:30.0	And so our idea through the podcast is to challenge those beliefs and kind of examine where we got them from.
1:37.0	So we've done make up, we've done demon summoning, we've done 24-hour live streaming, we've done QAnon, K-pop, tons of things.
1:47.4	And yeah, Ian and I just try and, I don't know, understand why we believe the way we do and challenge those initial
1:56.3	understandings and interpretations of the things that are.
1:59.7	Okay, and I think I'm actually following the QAnon episode,
2:03.0	so that's a hard act to follow.
