Okay, now we're going to get to stealing.

Everybody's ever been caught stealing.

I did once when I was five.

Never caught me again.

Anyway.

Now if a man steals an ox or a sheep and slaughters or sells it

he shall restore five oxen for an ox and four sheep for a sheep

now notice it's going to become important later mostly in Deuteronomy

so we have to put like a pin in it now.

But notice that the reason for stealing is important in terms of these penalties.

Right.

So this person here will address other circumstances later. That's why's why I'm saying kind of put a pin in it.

But this person here is stealing it for the purpose of enriching himself.

Right.

Either to sell the meat or to just sell, right, the sheep sheep or the ox and make money.

Right. So this is someone stealing for their own profit.

He has to pay back multiple times over, right, what he took.

And so this is an appropriate restitution because the idea is

he loses money on the whole deal. His goal was to get money, right, and he ends up losing money.
