This is The Marketplace Minute. I'm Justin Ho.

Stocks were in a sour mood on Thursday. The Dow fell almost 1 and 110%.

The S&P lost almost 1 and 2 thirds percent, and the NASDAQ gave up more than 1 and 8 tenths percent.

Fewer existing homes sold in August than in July. Downed 7 tenths percent,

according to the National Association of Realtors. It says sales rose in the Midwest,

but fell in the West and the South.

An index of leading economic indicators from the conference board dropped in August from

the month before. The index looks at factors including consumer expectations, factory orders,

and loan availability, but even though the index has been following, the current economy remains

pretty resilient. Case in point, the labor market. The number of people signing up for unemployment

benefits fell last week, the 201,000. The number of continuing claims fell too. It's at just under 1.7 million.
