And imagine a world where you wake up tomorrow and everybody without melanin has disappeared.

Well, without giving away too much, that is kind of the plot of sky

full of elephants, a book by Sebo Campbell, who I can't wait to talk to by the way. I read the book

and it is so much deeper because it really confronts this thing of race, this made-up construct

in such a clever, brilliant way.

Yes, there was a play back in a day called The Day of Absence where black people disappeared for a day.

And what impact that had on society was brilliant.

But this book really centers what is whiteness.

So I had to have a conversation with Dr. Daniel Black about it. And up next is that conversation. So

stay tuned. Every day on this show is literacy. You know, we always are talking about books and

reading and words and such. And someone recommended a sky full of elephants.

And it had been recommended before. And I realized then why I didn't pick it up. But this person

was convinced me because the premise of the book, right? So the premise of the book is,

who's white walks into a body of water and they drown themselves yes on the same day and I said I don't

want to read that because I don't necessarily want to live in a world where,

like, you know, the questions of that, you know, I'm not trying to celebrate that, right? So I was

grappling Dr. Black with my own sense of humanity and what does that even mean? And do I celebrate

that? And, you know, so I was going through it. And then I started reading it. And then I realized the genius of it.
