The Michael Berry Show I got an email that just put such a big smile on my face

There's so so many interesting things out there. It said good afternoon cz ZAR. I am a US history teacher at Energy Institute

High School here in Houston, Texas. I didn't know there was an Energy Institute

high school. Okay, well there is.

We are a project-based learning school and our final project for the year

is going to be about preserving food.

In history, we are studying Victory Gardens.

The Victory Gardens, I know most of you know this was an effort to encourage people to grow their own

produce in their in their yard in the public parks in any public space to reduce the stress on the food supply so that

rations could be sent to so that food could be sent to our soldiers.

This was during World War I and World War II.

But it was also part of kind of a Rosie the Rivator

boosting morale effort to make everybody feel like you were part of the wartime effort.

You know, a little old lady, little old man on the home front could still, you know, have a garden, a child could have a garden.

And in fact, if you go back and look at some of the posters,

I did in researching this, there was one that said,

come into the garden, daddy.

Make this summer's garden, provide next winter's vegetables grow

potatoes beans peas and onions and then there's another one with a real pretty

woman kind of a sultry look she's walking along and she's throwing seeds and she's in

a an American flag dress and it said so the seeds of victory plant and raise your own victories, your own vegetables. And there's another one, there's a

guy, he's got a pipe and he's walking along, it looks like he's out on a farm and it said,
