All right, we are diving back into Romans chapter 12,

and we are looking at verse number 12.

The apostle Paul says,

rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

Now I think he connects these three commands

together on purpose because they go together.

Let's look at them one at a time.

Rejoice in hope. What does that mean?

Well we all understand what it means to rejoice. It's being excited about something

happy, taking joy in the circumstance or

situation which has happened. And he is saying we have to rejoice in hope.

Now this word hope is not the hope like, oh I hope it happens, I hope it happens, I hope it happens, you know, like a wishful thinking kind of a hope.

This hope is the kind of hope where we say, oh I really have hope and that means I have kind of a confident expectation of good that's coming.

I have a confidence that something promised to me is coming true.

You see in the Christian life we have all kinds of hope of that sort.
