Tuesday, August 8th, 2023, I'm Evan Brown. New York City is preparing to turn one of its

major park spaces into an encampment for migrants and residents are saying enough.

You're seeing cuts to public services. There's been talks around libraries, parks, pools,

full departments because this is an expense that isn't going away.

This is the Fox News rundown evening edition.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams says migrant housing will now be built on Randall's

island, a popular park at enclave of Manhattan. And people are not happy. There are even

groups of parents actively arguing against it. But 2000 migrants seeking asylum will soon be

moved there to what is currently an athletic field. The fact that our largest city in the US

is claiming to be overwhelmed by this crisis kind of tells you how far reaching this migrant problem is.

Madison Allworth of the Fox Business Network speaks to us from Randall's island. She tells us about

how New York City is trying to strike a balance as being welcoming to migrants, but addressing the

very real concerns of space and money and dealing with the Biden administration, which is

supposed to be on the same Democratic Party team. Currently New York City is caring for 57,000

migrants. So when it comes to New York, the latest migrant shelter is now going to be Randall's

Island, which is filled with a ton of green space and will now also be filled with 2000 single

adult migrants. Randall's island is really close to Manhattan. It's not a couple miles. It's just

across the river. And this is a space that's filled with parks and fields, especially in the summer,

summer camps here. I mean, it is constantly used. And what they're doing is converting what I'm

looking at right now, three to four soccer fields in just this one area alone that will be covered

with flooring. They're piling into the ground now. And that will then have 10th. And we will be
