Summary

Border crossings slowed down this past spring after the United States prepared for a surge following the end of Title 42. However, the numbers are on the rise again this summer, climbing nearly 30% in July. Texas Governor Gregg Abbott (R-TX) has taken matters into his own hands by installing a floating border made up of buoys and razor wire along the Rio Grande in an effort to stop migrants from wading through the water. The Justice Department is suing Texas over this citing that it violates the Rivers and Harbors Appropriation Act of 1899. FOX News National Correspondent, Bill Melugin, takes the Rundown to the southern border to discuss cartel members caught on camera entering the U.S. and why migrant numbers are rising again, even in the excessive heat. Americans' confidence in the military is at its lowest level in over two decades. Military recruitment has been suffering as well, with the Army, Air Force, and Navy each expecting to fall short of their recruitment goals. The Afghanistan withdrawal that saw 13 U.S. service members lose their lives was an event that shook public faith in the military, and this week Congressman Darrell Issa held a congressional forum with the Gold Star families who lost loved ones in this chaotic withdrawal, where they demanded accountability from the Biden administration. Florida Congressman Michael Walz is a retired Green Beret colonel of the U.S. Special Forces, and he joins the Rundown to explain how the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal has hurt confidence in the military, why military recruitment has hit a record low in the U.S., and how America should work to combat Russian and Chinese aggression.
