all around the world. Growing up, I was a black church girl. My dad was a preacher and my mom

was a missionary, and since we were also a military family, we got to experience a lot of different

Christian denominations with a variety of racial compositions. Everything from being an all black

church of God in Christ or Cogic worship services to sometimes being one of a handful of black

families in predominantly white denominations and non denominations like the Assemblies of God.

Obviously, this raised a lot of questions for me about race, faith,

history, and the present-day application of faith-based principles. Those questions persist.

In the first Trump administration, those questions took on a greater sense of urgency,

because it seemed like the historical roots of slave-holding Christianity were roaring back to life.

And for anyone who knows the history of the Christian faith and the church's role in enslaving

African people on the land that it helped to steal from the indigenous people, all in the name

of God, of course. Well, then the revival of the demons of white supremacy, that could be a pretty

scary thing. After Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were sworn in, those troubling questions grew

even louder. It seemed like I could see the imprint of white Christian nationalism everywhere,

and I knew that this could never lead to anything good. That was confirmed once I got a copy of Dr. Anthea Butler's book entitled,
