Welcome to the Feminate Podcast. This is Nancy Wilson. Thanks for joining me today. The topic today is a phrase,

establish your heart. What does it mean to establish our heart? To establish means to set in place. Having our hearts establish

means we will not be tossed around. For example, in Hebrews 13, verses 7 through 9, it says,

do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines, for it is good that the heart be established by grace,

not with foods, which have not profited those who have been occupied with them.

Hebrews 13, 7 through 9.

I enjoy that phrase carried about.

Strange doctrines carry us to and fro.

We never have a firm foundation because we're blown around with each new fad, always looking for something. Strange doctrines, various doctrines, not content with what

God is revealed in His Word. In this verse, we see that God has been the one who has established our hearts by His

grace. It was not the result of us following weird doctrines or ideas, the latest fads in spirituality.

Our hearts are most definitely not established by foods, eating certain things and not eating

certain things, fasting, exercising,

or being preoccupied with our health. Man has, for millennia, been occupied with these things,

and they do not fix our souls. They do not fix our hearts. We get carried about by them,

rather than standing firm and established by grace.

Matthew Henry says,

We set our sights way too low when we seek to establish the heart by foods.

They were mean and low as to their subject.

They were about external, little, perishing things, such as meats and drinks, etc.

They were unprofitable.

Those who were most taken with them, and employed about them, got no real good by them to their own souls.
