You know I like many people sitting here today to not start my life off to become an alcoholic.

I had goals and I had dreams and I had things that I wanted to do with my life as a young

man and I didn't know anything about alcohol or alcoholism or the progression of alcoholism.

So I'm going to tell you a little bit about what it was like, what happened and what it was like now.

I had my first drink when I was about nine months old, I was having trouble with my teeth.

You know, and God, I couldn't walk, I couldn't talk, I didn't know what the heck I was and I wet my pants.

And then I didn't drink for about 13 years and then I wanted an 18-year slip and I ended up

the same way.

And so I came into AA and I wish it was that funny but it wasn't.

I caused a lot of heartache and a lot of misery for the simple reason.

I didn't know anything about the progression of alcohol.

I had my first drink when I was 13 years old and I was sitting under a railroad truss on a petucket and it was New Year's Eve.

And me and another guy had got together, I think, about 75 cents and we were not bought a quarter petry-port wine.

And we sat under that bridge and we took a couple of slugs out of that bottle and God, my eyes were dancing and I was ready to roll.

I said, boy, this stuff is great because all these other feelings disappeared.

All these feelings that I had long before I picked up a drink.
