I'm Alistair, your host and this week's story first appeared on July 22nd, 2010.

It's the third stop on our year-long tour through some of the big numbers that EscapePod has

hit during its 20-year-to-date voyage, and it comes to us from Rachel Swirsky.

Rachel was a founding editor of Podcastle along with Anne Lecky, and Rachel's short stories have

appeared in Tor, Subterranean Magazine and Clarksworld, among others, and been reprinted in

years' best anthologies edited by Strahan, Horton, Dozois, and the Van Damiers. She holds

an MFA in fiction from the Iowa Writers Workshop and graduated from Clarion West in 2005.

Her short fiction has been nominated for the Hugo Award, the Locus Award, the World Fantasy Award, and the Sturgeon Award.

She's won the Nebula in 2010 for her novella, the lady who picked red flowers beneath the queen's window, and 2014 for her short story, if you are a dinosaur, my love.

Your narrator this week is Merr Lafferty. Mur is the co-editor and sometime host of a

skate pod. She is an American podcaster and writer based in Durham, North Carolina. She is the

host and creator of the podcasts I Should Be Writing and Ditch Diggers. Her books have been nominated

for the Hugo, Nebula, Philip K. Dick and Scribe. During her time with us, to date,

she has been the co-founder, co-editor of Sudapod, founding editor of Mothership Zeta, and the editor
