Hello and welcome to part two in our series on Antarctic Explorer Ernest Shackleton.

Last time we covered the early years of Shackleton's life and today we will take the man on his

first journey of exploration and that will be the 1901 Discovery Expedition.

Just one note for today.

As stated, the focus of this episode will be on the 1901 Discovery Expedition.

For this endeavor, Shackleton was just a junior officer, but he will play a very important

role in the affair.

But understand that I'm going to keep the spotlight on Shackleton as this is his podcast.

When we do a series on Robert Falcon Scott, the Discovery Expeditions Commander, I will

dive into that enterprise in greater detail.

And for this episode, we will keep the focus on Shackleton.

We will, of course, talk a lot about the people and events of the expedition, but it will

mostly be so that we can understand and appreciate Shackleton's role.
