Happiness and contentment is a sucker's game.

I choose abject fear and resentment occasionally, unpleasantly surprised.

Perhaps some good news heading into the 2026 midterms, according to a new UGov economist poll.

41% of Americans now saying they plan on voting for a Democrat next year.

33% saying they plan to vote for a Republican candidate next year.

This is what is called a generic congressional poll, which measures an overall feeling

about House and Senate races, which are actually one congressional district by congressional district.

They are one state by state.

As I've said countless times about these generic congressional polls, thanks to Republican

gerrymandering, Democrats need a 3% lead in a generic poll in order for that to be reflected in the actual election results.

But this is encouraging news.

Donald Trump's approval ratings coming in at near historic lows for both him and any other president.

41% approval. Pretty low. Pretty low.

But the question you got to ask, when you read about Trump's low approval ratings, you have to

ask, well, compare it to whom? Kamala Harris, for example, she now has an approval rating of 40%. That's one point lower than Trump's,

and she hasn't done any damage to our country. So this suggests her still at 1% lower than Trump.

This suggests that if the election were held today, she would lose again.

Now, this is a national poll.
