During Lent, we remember how much Jesus

loves us, so much so that he gave his life for us on the cross to restore our friendship with God.

But why did Jesus have to restore our friendship with God? What happened that made our friendship

with God difficult? Do any of you know?

Well, a long, long time ago, after God had created the world and all living things,

the first man and woman, Adam and Eve, walked with God in the Garden of Eden.

They were friends of God.

They spent all their time with him in the beautiful garden

with all kinds of flowers and fruit trees and good things to eat.

But one day, Adam and Eve started to wonder about all the good things God had given them.

They doubted that God would take care of them, and they disobeyed him,

picking fruit from the one tree he'd told them not to.

After, they felt so bad about it that they ran and hid from God.

They did not want to come out.

They were afraid of their creator and best friend, God.

This story is what we call the fall.

Adam and Eve's disobedience to God hurt their friendship with him,

and they had to leave the beautiful garden God had made for them.

But God loved them so much that he wanted to restore their friendship with him.

So he sent his only son, Jesus, into the world, to save us.
