Hello everyone and welcome to the Stephen King cast, one man's musings on the works of Stephen King.

Each week I will review one of Stephen

King's works in the chronological order of publication. Today we'll be discussing Stephen King's

second novel, 1975's Small Town Tale of Vampirism, Salem's Lot. If you had tuned into the

first week's podcast in which I covered Carrie, I discussed how I discovered King with

it and the subsequent binge read of every one of his then published novels.

Like most of Stephen King's properties, even if I hadn't read the story by King, I was aware

of it.

I knew that Salem's Lot was a vampire story in a small town with the name of the book, and I

had seen parts of the TV movie from the 1970s,

of course, was familiar of it through the Simpsons' annual Treehouse of Terror in 1993 episode.

I believe I first read Salem's Lot in the fall.

I don't know if I read it in the fall the first time,

but I distinctly remember rereading it a few years later around Halloween.

When compiling a list of

Halloween books, I never really see Salem's Lot included in any list, but I strongly recommend

this to be read around October 31st. With the beautiful imagery of a small town under the moonlight,

while menacing shadows stalk their prey through the dark woods, it is an essential read if you appreciate spooky stories to tell in the dark.

This is now the third time I'm reading Salem's Lot,

and I'm happy to say that I enjoyed it just as much the third time around as I did the first two.
