Summary

Prophets to the Southern Kingdom is Chuck's commentary on the books of Joel, Micah, Zephaniah, and Habakkuk. The Prophets to the Southern Kingdom spoke many promises of Israel's return to the land, Christ's second coming and the overall time line from Babylon all the way through the Millennium. In a time of great turmoil, these men focused on the hope of the coming Messiah and His Kingdom. The book of Joel is a neglected book among Bible scholars. It's an important book because it records Israel's place in God's program: from Babylon all the way through the Millennium. Micah's message was heeded, repentance followed, and disaster was postponed for a century. Here was a prophet that changed history! One man can make a difference. Both Zephaniah and Jeremiah prophesied to a politically prospering people of coming judgment. Habakkuk means to embrace. Habakkuk's main theme is God's consistency with Himself in view of permitted evil. Why do bad things happen to good people? 0:33.5	Thank you. One of the things we have to be conscious of as we read prophecy in general, but specifically Micah,
0:50.1	is the whole idea of an early event that is prophesied that also carries implications for a similar but larger later event.
0:59.5	And there's a time gap between these two.
1:02.1	And the early event is sometimes called the type, if you will, and the later event is called the anti-type.
1:08.2	And this idea is often made analogous to two mountains that, as you see in the distance,
1:14.9	you realize there's two mountains, but you may not be sensitive to the extent of the valley
1:19.7	between them in terms of a time gap.
1:21.9	We need to be sensitive to that as we go.
1:24.1	There's a local disturbance there in the early chapters, chapter 6 through 16,
1:28.9	which then gives rise to the prophecy of a greater invasion in the last days and of the Lord's
1:34.5	final deliverance. And all that was laid out as we went through those chapter by chapter.
1:39.8	We also had a chance to explore a little bit this whole business of McGito and Petra. Petra is
1:46.4	very significant in the prophecies, and we notice in Revelation it even highlights the specific
