Summary

Prophets to the Southern Kingdom is Chuck's commentary on the books of Joel, Micah, Zephaniah, and Habakkuk. The Prophets to the Southern Kingdom spoke many promises of Israel's return to the land, Christ's second coming and the overall time line from Babylon all the way through the Millennium. In a time of great turmoil, these men focused on the hope of the coming Messiah and His Kingdom. The book of Joel is a neglected book among Bible scholars. It's an important book because it records Israel's place in God's program: from Babylon all the way through the Millennium. Micah's message was heeded, repentance followed, and disaster was postponed for a century. Here was a prophet that changed history! One man can make a difference. Both Zephaniah and Jeremiah prophesied to a politically prospering people of coming judgment. Habakkuk means to embrace. Habakkuk's main theme is God's consistency with Himself in view of permitted evil. Why do bad things happen to good people? Habakkuk is among the last of the minor prophets to preach in Judah before the Babylonian captivity. This study contains 13 hours of verse by verse teachings. Copyright © 10-01-2010

Music Seven. Well, we are going to wrap up the final session of our exploration of the book of Micah. And we are in chapter 7, which is a short little chapter, so we'll

0:56.4

also use the occasion to just sort of review where we've been. And as we started out, looking at

1:04.5

the two houses after Salman dies, of course, through the civil war, and they broke into the

1:09.5

southern and northern kingdom. Southern kingdom calling itself Judah, the Northern Kingdom calling itself Israel.

1:16.6

And I prefer the Northern Kingdom designation, so we don't confuse ourselves when we're talking

1:20.9

about Israel, that is the northern portion of the nation, or the word Israel for the entire

1:27.0

nation, because we'll discover in this

1:28.9

particular book, too, we're going to find Micah addressing primarily the southern kingdom,

1:36.5

but he'll talk a lot about the northern kingdom in part because he foresaw their collapse

1:41.4

and the judgment coming upon them. And he emphasized that

1:46.1

as a lesson to the Southern Kingdom. So he's sometimes talking to the Northern Kingdom. Sometimes

1:51.7

he's talking to the Southern Kingdom. Sometimes he'll address the entire nation. He'll use

1:56.1

the term Jacob, meaning the whole combination. And he'll even address non-Israel nations, the Gentiles.

2:04.7

He'll speak. Some of his remarks addressed to all the nations of the world. So that's one

2:10.0

of the interesting exercises as you go through this book is to note which verses apply to which

2:17.1

audience, if you will.
