In today's study, Chuck completes his teaching on the book of Obadiah, session one.

Music session one. But in Jehoshaphate's time, Edomites joined the Ammonites and Moabites in a raid on Judah.

But the allies, you know, fell to fighting one another.

But notice that the Edomites and Esau, the descendants of Esau, are always the traditional

enemies of Jacob.

Under Jehoram, Edom rebelled, but he could not reduce them to subjection.

Edom had a respite of about 40 years then where they weren't bothered.

But then Amaziah later invaded Edom, slew 10,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt, captured

Selah their capital, and sent another 10,000 to the deaths by casting from the top of that cliff.

Uzziah, Amaziah's successor, restored the port El-Elath.

But under Ahaz, the Judah was being attacked by pecan resin,

and the Edomites invaded Judah and carried off captive.

So we see all through the biblical history that Edom represents their adversaries,

and Judah then never again recovered Edom during their time.

But let's take a key milestone.

Many commentators regarding this really

is the beginning. It actually began a lot sooner, but this is where many commentators pick up the thread

in about 586 BC. The place is Jerusalem. The event is the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonian
