0:44.6	Music Now. Well, I want to welcome you to our exploration of this interesting book called the Gospel of Luke,
0:50.7	the book of Luke.
0:52.4	Luke has a Gentile focus. Some scholars think he might
0:57.1	have had some Jewishness in his background, but it's clear that he was a MD, a doctor,
1:03.7	even though he was technically a slave. He does join Paul, as you know, and so forth.
1:08.6	And so, and he is not an eyewitness. Remember, he put this together
1:13.7	by interviewing eyewitnesses. But several scholars, especially Sir William Ramsey, to challenge him,
1:22.5	went and really researched it and discovered much through their amazement that his is one of the
1:26.7	best documented gospels that we have. You want to not lose sight of the fact that he presents it from a
1:32.7	Gentile perspective, very subtly, but it's clearly there. And in fact, not only that,
1:39.8	his book is written in two volumes. The Gospel Luke is volume one. The book of Acts is volume
1:44.5	two. And when you study this carefully, there are many scholars that believe that these are
1:49.8	documents that were legally required to precede Paul's appeal to Caesar. The Roman law required
1:57.1	the background documentation to precede an appeal.
2:03.4	And so that was an expensive procedure in those days.
2:08.1	But Theophilus, his friend here, who funded this, apparently made that possible.
