We left off last time in autumn of 1806.

Napoleon was in north-eastern Germany.

In the wake of their smashing victories over the Prussians at Yena and Auerstedt, the

Grande Armee fanned out across the region, netting tens of thousands more Prussian prisoners

and occupying territory, both from the enemy and from neutral states.

French troops took Berlin on October 27 facing no resistance.
