Sydney podcast here, a podcast for horror lovers where we discuss any and all things horror.

And it's me, your girl, Sydney. Happy Friday. Happy first Friday of June. I don't know about you guys,

but the weather is finally getting nice in New England, which like I'm suddenly so happy. Depression just like melts away.

The birds are chirping. You might be able to hear them because there's a nest outside of my window.

They've been actually fighting all morning. So like relax over there, guys. But I don't even care

because it's beautiful. It's happy. And today we're going to talk about a summer movie that is not so happy because a lot of people die.

And I just love a classic camp 80 slasher.

And I mean camp in like camp in the way the movie is.

Like it's so campy.

But also camp because they're physically at a summer camp.

And we're talking about the movie The Burning today, which the burning

came out in 1981, which was a year after the original Friday the 13th came out. And they kind of

have similar plots. So a lot of people think that like the burning ripped off Friday the 13th,

which I think is why it doesn't have as big of a following as Friday the 13th does. But this movie was

actually written beforehand. And they did have the same person doing effects, which is Tom Savini,

who was a fucking icon in the horror industry. And he actually turned down doing Friday the 13th

part two so he could do the makeup on this movie. And it's really great. Now, I will say, let's get this

part out of the way. This movie, unfortunately, is the debut film of Harvey Weinstein. And this is actually

the movie that kind of catapulted his career. So like, fuck that guy. And he just immediately started

his just like sexual debauchery on this movie as well,
