Summary

Our February observance of Nora Roberts Month continues, as we read Angels Fall with author and longtime Nora devotee Christine Ricketts. It’s a quirky small-town romance between a traumatized chef and a mystery writer who hates vegetables. What could go wrong? A murder? An elaborate town-wide gaslighting campaign? A lack of fresh #herbs? All this and more, but spoilers…it ends happily ever after.
Content warning: This book and our discussion of it contains a fictional mass shooting.
Readers advisory: Here.
Footnotes: Concept of Waffles Newsletter
Candy pairing: Christine says hotel chocolates, Kait says trail mix, Renata says #herbs.
Coming up next: Wonder by R. J. Palacio

| 0:00.0 | Hello, this is Kate. Sorry I sound like a monster. I have a cold. But we want us to just leave a quick note before we start the show to let you know that the book that we're discussing in this episode has a protagonist who survived a public mass shooting. We recorded the episode prior to the February 14th Parkland School Shooting, and we understand that a lot of people look to this podcast as more lighthearted entertainment. |
| 0:28.1 | So if you don't want to hear us discussing fictional gun violence, totally understand if you want to skip this episode forever or for the time being. |
| 0:35.5 | We also apologize if any of our discussion seems lighthearted. |
| 0:40.0 | Our hearts are definitely with the very real people who were affected by gun violence, and we |
| 0:45.4 | stand with the Parkland students and everyone else rallying for stricter gun control, but timing |
| 0:51.2 | is a bitch. Finally, on a more administrative note, we've shuffled the order of our |
| 0:56.9 | episodes a little bit to accommodate some scheduling issues. So the next episode will be Wonder by |
| 1:02.7 | RJ Polakio, and having it all will instead air later this month. So thank you and enjoy the |
| 1:10.4 | episode. |
| 1:23.7 | Hello and welcome to worst bestsellers, where we reconvened Nora Roberts Book Club, |
| 1:29.3 | so you don't have to, although you should. |
| 1:32.2 | I'm Renata. |
| 1:33.3 | And I'm Kate. |
| 1:34.5 | And for this episode, we read Angels Fall by Nora Roberts. |
| 1:38.6 | Joining us to discuss this paragon of literature is publishing lackey slash internet recluse, Christine. |
| 1:47.0 | Hi, and I just want to have a full disclosure here that I am Kate's secret cousin Nicole's lesser half, |
| 1:54.7 | which of course makes me and Kate absolutely nothing. |
| 2:02.5 | Is Nicole a secret? |
| 2:05.2 | I mean, that's what you said on your first time she was on the show, so. |
| 2:09.0 | Oh, right, right, right. Yes. Correct. |
| 2:13.6 | This is, we need to start drawing like a family tree for the podcast just like I bet Nora Roberts |
| 2:20.9 | has for some of her book series is oh she absolutely does so see we're just seamlessly on brand here |
