Today we'll be looking at what's happening to the ambitious European plans for a Green Deal.

As announced by the new president of the European Commission, Ursula Wondrelayin, in December 2019,

she called this plan Europe's Man on the Moon moment.

But instead of the word moment, her speechwriters had better chosen the word project.

Because transforming Europe's economy in a really sustainable way, meaning to respect the Paris Agreement on climate change,

and to respect planetary boundaries, a moment won't do the job. A long-term transformative project is needed.

And however, the Green Deal is still one of the best policy ideas that EU policy makers have

launched in many years, which, by the way, shows that it actually helps if they listen a bit more

to citizens and independent thinkers and a bit more to citizens and independent

thinkers and a bit less to lobbyists, the Green Deal seems unfortunately to become more and more

grey. In this episode, I will be talking to Belen Balagna and Lala Hakuma.coma that see, both

researcher and campaigners at CEO, about the report they have just published.

In the report, they show that the EU Green Deal is slowly discolouring due to intense lobbying

and a lack of accountability.

In the first 100 days of shaping the European Green Deal, top commission officials in charge

of this top priority have met 151 times with business lobbyists, more than 11 meetings a week,

while keeping hardly any records of these meetings.
