All right, welcome back to the Cripes cast. I'm your host Charlie Barons. We are of course sponsor by Charlie Goodsoda.

We are still on the road this week. I'm actually recording this from

0:11.8

Breckenridge, Colorado. We were doing a couple shows in Denver. But before I get into that,

0:17.8

I want to let you know who our guest is this week. We are talking to Dr. Corey Pompey. He's the director

0:23.8

of the UW Marching Band. And as a guy who grew up in Wisconsin watching the UW Badgers,

0:31.3

going to Badgers Games, watching the fifth quarter, and then obviously going to school

0:36.4

at UW and just the floor of the Marching Band. And everything it means to the school and

0:43.4

the whole deal. It's just super exciting to have Corey on. He took over for if you don't know

0:51.2

the history of the UW Marching Band. Michael Cron has been, he kind of defined the UW Madison

0:58.0

Marching Band for 50 years. And so for a guy like Corey to take it over and do what he has done

1:04.4

with COVID and everything, it's been really cool to see what he's brought, what he's changed,

1:10.0

what he's kept. It was a great conversation. I think you'll enjoy it. We touched on a bunch of

1:14.7

different things, everything from what a Marching Band means to a school, to adding diversity,

1:20.9

to the UW Marching Band, what it takes to become part of the band. I had a great time talking to him

1:26.7

because really if I go back to my college days and anyone who went to Madison probably has these

1:32.6

same memories, but the best part of the football game a lot of times came after the football game,

1:37.8

the fifth quarter. Seeing the Marching Band do its thing was just, I don't know, it's just an

1:44.1

amazing experience. Could have been the beer. Yes, it could have been the beer, but I also,

1:48.8

they are incredibly talented individuals and to direct a team like that takes a whole other

1:54.4

level of skill and dedication to the craft. So it's great to have Corey on. Anyway, before we get

2:00.4

to the interview, just a little update on what we're up to, currently on tour this past week,

2:06.1

we did Salt Lake City in Denver and this week we're going to Boston and Port Smith and then
