Summary

In this episode I'm joined by Phil Costa to talk about the 2-0 win over Brentford on Wednesday night. We chat about the impactful return of Ben White, Mikel Merino's goal and his crazy stats in 2025, as well as his position in the team. Is he now a centre-forward more than a repurposed midfielder? There's discussion of the goals we scored, how Brentford made life difficult for us in the second half, David Raya's incredible save, as well as more injury concerns after both Cristhian Mosquera and Declan Rice had to go off.

Then we spend some time chatting about the other Premier League games this week, including Chelsea being beaten by Leeds, Liverpool dropping more points at home, and lots more.

Hello and welcome to a brand new ArsBlog arscast right here on arsblog.com. How are you? Hope you're well. Thank you very much indeed, as always, for being here. It all feels a bit sort of breathless and non-stop at the moment,

0:39.1

doesn't it? And that is because there's a very simple explanation for that. It's because it

0:43.5

is breathless and non-stop game after game after game, barely any time to recover in between.

0:50.1

You play in a Sunday, then a Wednesday, then we're playing again on Saturday morning.

0:55.8

There's a lot going on.

1:02.6

And what went on last night was a 2-0 win for Arsenal over Brentford to extend or re-establish the lead at the top of the Premier League to five points after Manchester City had won the night

1:08.4

before.

1:09.4

So we're going to delve into all of that, as well as that,

1:12.6

because of the way the schedule is, normally after every round of Premier League games, we do a podcast

1:17.2

for our Patreon members called The 30. It's just really difficult to fit that episode into the

1:24.3

schedule today. So what we're going to do is obviously talk about the Arsenal game, but myself and Phil

1:30.0

Costa, who does the 30 with me over on Patreon, we're going to talk about some of the Premier

1:33.8

League games, some very interesting results this week.

1:36.9

Liverpool held to a draw at home by Sunderland.

1:39.9

Chelsea, well, we were told they were title contenders.

1:43.8

They might well be, but after a point

1:46.1

against Arsenal, everyone was talking about Chelsea, Chelsea, oh, look how good Chelsea are. And then they

1:51.5

went to Leeds and lost last night, 3-1. So there's plenty to get into in this particular episode.

1:58.2

Before we start, I just want to say thank you to everybody who has sent me

2:02.7

in all ways possible. Every form of communication, I've got them on Instagram and Blue Sky and

2:10.9

email. I've got a couple of telexes. There was a telegram. There was even a guy from Pony Express.

2:17.0

He sort of knocked on the door and said, I have a message for you. People sending in their Spotify wrapped where it tells you what you've been listening to for the year on Spotify. And many of you use that to listen to the arsecast thousands and thousands of minutes. So I do want to say thank you to all of you who listen
