Trump goes long at the state of the union and is the U.S. men's hockey team a bunch of disgraceful, misogynist. We'll discuss all this and more on this edition of the editors. I'm Rich Larry, and I'm joined as always by the good neighbor Noah Rothman, the reporter, Audrey Falberg and the grillmaster. Phil Klein, you are, of course, listening to a national view of podcasts or sponsors. This episode are Vair and fast-growing trees. More about both of them in due course. And for some reason, you're not already following us on a streaming service, by the way. You can find us everywhere from Spotify to Apple Podcasts. And if you like what you hear here, please consider giving us a glowing five-star review wherever you listen to your podcast. If you don't like what you hear here, please forget. I said anything. So Audrey,

0:56.3

epic performance by President Trump going nearly two hours, holding everyone's attention, as is his

1:05.4

want. And I thought this was a pretty good performance. I think he's at his best when he's boosterish and saying

1:12.3

how great things are and how great people are. And there was a lot of that in this State of the

1:18.6

Union address. A lot of people recognized from the balcony. He's gone even further now with

1:24.2

making things happen in the balcony, having people come out, having them get

1:28.1

various honors and awards. What did you make of it? Yeah, I thought the speech itself was fine.

1:35.2

I thought in general, you know, discipline is not usually a word that we ascribe to President

1:40.9

Trump, but he stayed pretty disciplined. Like you said, this was a extremely,

1:46.1

extremely long stem winder of a speech. I was up there. I was inside the chamber,

1:51.8

which is always an honor being there for these kinds of long addresses. I did notice at the

1:56.9

beginning, it was kind of interesting. His voice was kind of noticeably faint a little bit,

2:01.5

kind of almost wistful, but he did gain steam throughout. You're right that his team was really

2:08.3

smart to highlight all these individuals, you know, awarding people medals of freedom,

2:13.8

congressional medal of honor, the hockey team being there, which I know we'll get to at some point, you know, the mother of Irina, the woman who was tragically murdered on the Charlotte Light Rail.

2:26.6

And then also having this really politically smart line to ask at one point during the speech, you know, stand if you believe that the U.S.

2:36.0

federal government's, you know, fundamental role is to protect American citizens over

2:40.5

illegal immigrants. And he did that, obviously, knowing that Democrats wouldn't stand.

2:45.3

And there you had it. They didn't stand in that line. And, you know, the video of that,

2:50.4

them sitting during that line,

2:51.3

is already being deployed in ads.

2:53.5

That was a smart move from Trump's political team.
